1st Trip to Laramie Wyoming
Updated: 3 days ago

Located in the southeastern part of Wyoming, Laramie is a charming college town that offers a unique blend of Western charm and a college town vibe. Home to the University of Wyoming, the town has a youthful energy that's felt throughout its vibrant community. With a thriving arts and culture scene, visitors can explore the Laramie Mural Project, the Wyoming Territorial Prison State Historic Site, and the Laramie Plains Museum. The downtown area boasts a variety of shops, restaurants, and bars that cater to all tastes. Outdoor enthusiasts can explore nearby hiking trails, rock climbing, and skiing areas, making Laramie a great destination for all kinds of travelers.
We took 4 days driving to Laramie Wyoming to visit our grandson who is going to school there. We made stops in Bakersfield, Las Vegas, and Provo on the way.
In Laramie, we stayed at the Rjourney RV Park. It was previously a KOA and had full hookups. We stayed here for 3 nights.

I liked Laramie with its eclectic downtown and all of the open space. You could tell it was a college town with all of the young people. Everywhere you looked downtown there were murals.
The University of Wyoming is there and Wyotech, which is where my grandson is going to school. It is one of the best schools in the country for training students for careers as technicians in the automotive industry.
We spent time with our grandson and got in a couple of hikes in the Medicine-Bow Routt National Forest with our daughter while our grandson was in school. The Medicine-Bow Routt National Forest is a stunning natural wonderland in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and Wyoming. It offers a wealth of recreational activities, including hiking, camping, fishing, and wildlife viewing. With more than one million acres of wilderness and over 2,000 miles of trails, visitors are spoilt for choice. The forest is home to many unique and diverse ecosystems, including alpine tundra, subalpine forests, and lush mountain meadows. There are trails for hikers of all abilities, from easy day hikes to challenging multi-day backpacking trips. With so much beauty to explore and experience, a visit to the Medicine-Bow Routt National Forest is a must for any outdoor enthusiast.
The self-guided tour through The Wyoming Territorial Prison State Historic Site offered us a fascinating glimpse into the state's history as a wild frontier territory. Located in Laramie, Wyoming, this prison housed some of the most notorious criminals of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including Butch Cassidy. We explored the cells, saw the guard tower, and learned about the daily life of the prisoners and guards. In addition to the prison, the site also includes a museum with exhibits on Wyoming's history, culture, and industry. A visit to the Wyoming Territorial Prison State Historic Site is a must for anyone interested in the history of the American West.
It was 350 miles to our next destination: Next stop Badlands National Park
Lornas Tips:
We reunited with family here and our favorite games came out again, just as they do at Huntington Lake. However, during this trip, there was a city-wide blackout. Since we are accustomed to dry camping, we were prepared with a solar charger for our trailer. See Mick’s list of what we use on the Annual Bash at Huntington Again post. We still rely on batteries for lots of other devices and find it helpful to have them well-organized so we know exactly what we need. We use this battery organizer both at home and while traveling.
