Sunset at Alstrom Point

Updated: Jun 12

Getting there

The drive to Alstrom Point was an exhilarating journey that rewarded us with breathtaking vistas of Lake Powell. Our main focus was to get there for sunset at Alstrom Point. Getting there takes some time. It is a 26-mile dirt road with a creek crossing and a few turns so set your odometer to zero at the start in Big Water Az. and follow directions. There are many sites where you can get the route. Here is a good one, www.alstrompoint.com. Make sure you download them as there is no cell service on the drive. The landscape gradually unfolded before our eyes, with panoramic views of deep canyons, vast stretches of desert, and the distant shimmering waters of Lake Powell. The road is filled with twists and turns, offering glimpses of the stunning natural beauty that awaits at the journey's end.

Arriving at Alstrom Point, we were greeted by a scene of unparalleled splendor. Perched high above the azure waters of Lake Powell, the viewpoint provides a captivating vista that stretches as far as the eye can see. The vast expanse of the lake extends into the horizon, dotted with countless rocky outcrops and hidden coves. The vibrant blue water against the surrounding red cliffs creates a striking contrast, accentuating the sheer magnificence of the landscape.

Sunset at Alstrom Point

As the sun cast its golden rays across the shimmering surface, the view became even more enchanting, painting the scene with a warm glow. As the day drew to a close, the sun began its descent toward the horizon, casting a mesmerizing cascade of colors across the vast expanse of Lake Powell. The sky transformed into a palette of warm hues, with shades of orange, pink, and purple merging harmoniously. The tranquil stillness of the surroundings amplifies the sense of awe, as the changing light paints the rugged landscape in a soft, golden glow. Witnessing the sunset from Alstrom Point is a moment I am sure we will never forget. I am glad that we followed the directions because driving out of there in the dark was an experience. If we do the drive again I think we will spend the night at the overlook and enjoy the sunrise and do the drive in the daylight.
